92 518 slipping 2nd into 3rd help !!!

I have a 92 EX cab 4x4 518 and under hard accelleration or when pulling a load it shifts into 3rd and then right back down to second and then it goes right back into third and then it holds the gear Unloaded it almost never does it but loaded it always does it if you are at about half throttle what could this be?

Explain a little better what your trying to say. Is it slipping in second or what.



Have you done a fluid/filter service and adjusted the bands?

I have changed the fluid and filter. I have not adjusted the bands that was my next step. It is not really slipping it is just not staying in third once it shifts from second. It jumps right back to second and right back to third very fast. It does this very fast. transmission works perfectly fine other wise i have no mods to the truck.

Check you kick down cable adjustment. With the engine off. There should be a small amount of slack from the cable throttle linkage pin to the cable slide. I think 1/16" is the correct amount. But each trans is a little different.



Starting from a dead stop with light throttle. At what speed does it shift from 1st to 2nd- 2nd to 3rd- 3rd to OD?



The second gear band adjustment is external. 1st gear you need to drop the trans pan.

It does this right around 30-35mph or so 2nd-3rd-2nd and right back to 3rd real quick. Then it works fine and hits overdrive about 45-48 or so. It feals like to me it dosent have enough pressure to hold third or smething

I need these speeds to help determine if your TV cable is way out of adjustment. Do these shifts without a load/trailer which ever the case might be.

It was the kick down cable it fell off works perfect now thanks for all the help.

Thats why I was asking about the unloaded shift points. If the cable was unhooked or out of adjustment. The shift points I asked about would have told me you had a problem with your TV cable or kickdown cable as you called it.
