92-93' Color matching grille

I was in the local Cummins Central Power shop tonight and there was a nice 92' or 93' W250 Club Cab in there, Dark Emerald Green in color. It had a OEM grille with the black "Dodge" lettering but is was color matched to the body. I have never seen a 1st Gen with color matching grille like that. That wasn't an option was it?

Sounds like a custom job to me. I have seen in aftermarket catalogs where you can order grilles grey instead of chrome. Guess you order that, paint it, then put on your DODGE letters and viola, you have a custom grille.

I don't think you can "get them", the OEM grilles have them molded in or embossed, the aftermarket grilles do not have them. On one of these forums I saw Dodge had a recent production run of the Grilles again if anyone is wanting one.

The work option/ stripper model Dodge trucks had a grey painted grille from the factory. Also the Canyon Sport package Ramchargers had a color matched grille. I have seen them in black and a bronze or gold.

in talking with mysteryman he told me that when the grill swap happened in 91 all trucks were going to have color matched grills ..... however they were having problems with the plastic actually expanding and contracting with the heat of the sun ... ... . b/c of this the way the grill is made it was cracking bad ... .



dodges solution was to clad them in chrome it kinda helped to block the uv rays and slow the cracking





those trucks that came with the color matched paint were actually chromed grills that were painted.
