Back at Christmas, I found my computer had partially failed on my 91.5 D250 auto. No grid heaters, no overdrive and no cruise control. Speedometer worked, and I don't know if the computer controls anything else, but nothing else had failed. I put in bypass switches for the O/D and grid heaters, but I was missing the CC. I had a family function to attend this summer, and while there, tried the SBEC from my brothers '95 which gave me back CC for the 1800 miles home, but no grid heaters, no OD, and it also gave a Water in Fuel every time the accelerator pedal was pressed somewhat above idle.
I ordered a '92 computer from TDR member Simplysmn, figuring it would at least give me CC. I got it this morning and gave it a try. The wait to start light came on (I assume it works, but the wiring was still bypassed). The CC worked, but it did not shift to OD.
I suspect the OD may not be the computer - I've had occasional issues with the TPS before (always the connector). I will fiddle around with it a bit more to see if I can get it to work. I think it should still work with the bypass switch, but I will have to check the wiring. Otherwise, the '92 computer seems to be working perfectly! I'm going away for a week or so, maybe I get to it before I go, maybe not.
