92 W-250 Club to Crew cab conversion

I have been toying with the idea of converting my 92 W-250 CTD Club Cab to a crew cab. Has anyone else out there tried this? My thoughts were to find the crew cab (entire front clip would be nice) and have the frame stretched to accommodate the 8' box and crew cab. Anybody have any ideas on cost downtime of the truck, etc. ? Where can I find a crew cab? In Montana/Wyoming/Dakotas? Oo.

My conversion was done by taking an '84 crew and just dropping in the engine, transmission, t-case, axles, radiator support, and, insturment panel.

You can install a crew cab onto your frame, if the frame section behind the exsisting cab is modified. the driveline, brakelines, wiring, and fuel lines will have to be lenghtened. Have some one who is qualified to cut and weld the frame properly. In times past, I have used a frame section from a salvage truck, turn it up side down to match the cab mounting area.

Anyone know a good source for the cabs? The Texas State Forest Service in Lufkin, TX has a bunch (and I mean a bunch) of Dodge crew cab trucks in their bone yard. Unfortunately they are Air Force Surplus and can not be sold.

Seems like it would be easier to buy a decent crew and swap your parts on it. If you must have a long bed, buy a 2wd and convert it to 4wd.

The Air Force regularly sells off their surplus on www.gsa.gov and www.govliquidation.com. I just picked up an ex-Air Force Crew Cab from govliquidation all the way from CA. I wonder why they are not selling these? Would have been alot closer to me!

Look back in the TDR issues (sorry, mabee someone else remembers the issue number) and you will find a rightup on Mark McGiverns project of lenghtening the frame and all.

As for the easyest way, I would agree with the others and put everything under the current crew frame. That is how mine was done.
