my son has a 93 3/4 ton 5 spd man-u-al he pulls a 16' trailer to the job site with on a daily basis and a guy told him that a device to increase fuel delivery would really improve his power. as i drive a 03 2500 HO 4x4 HD CTD i have all the power i need so i couldn't answer his question. alright knock off the boos it used to be my truck and i gave it to him when he graduated from college, ok? anyway, any budget (hahahaha) performance mods suggestions would be appreciated. we live in south texas and he actually asked me " whats that electric cord under the hood for".

Catman, first off welcome, and I hope you bought him a TDR membership too. He could get on here and search through the archives and find plenty of budget performance mods. The previous issue of the TDR, Bushwakr's article showed quite a few budget performance mods. I havent done any engine mods yet, so if you dont have that issue, someone else will chime in and tell you... Bill

Yes ... . welcome to the asylum!!!

I guess I'll start by saying first thing is to read Bushwakr's , I mean our Pastor's, "sticky" threads found at the top of this forum.

This is the bible that we 1st genners have all vowed to abide by. ;)

This should give you a good idea where to start... . and that is with gages. These will help establish a baseline for judging current and future performance.

Now, after you and your son read the Pastor's sticky, and can recite the first verse by heart, then your ready to BOMB on .

Oo. Oo.

The device is a screwdriver to turn the pump up!:D -

or injectors

and/or more air in

and/or bigger exhaust

and increased pump timing

Look at Bushwackers sticky on how to increase power on a first gen. He has put together a great list and how to section and it takes it in steps. Your son can more than double the rear wheel horsepower if he wants to go that far.

Have fun!Oo.

Soon after I got my rig, I realized my need for moooor power. I crossed an especially rough RR crossing on a state hi-way. I crawled over top of it. Well this senior citizen in a mini van crossed right after I did then gunned his little 3. 0 liter gasser mini van and passed me like I was sit'n still!!! I had the peddle to the floor!

Needless to say  I will be "setting people up" for that this year!!!Oo. Oo.

Thanks PDR:D

Welcome catman

First bit of advice- dont believe everythign you hear about these engines, and this and that to turn them up, make 300 hp, and get 25 mpg pulling a 40' trailer. A lot of it is BS. Had one guy tell me I needed to get a chip for my 91. I told him it was impossible; my engine is mechanical. I offered to pop the hood and let him point out the ECM and where the chip would go, but he declined.

Second, prepare him for the BOMB bug to hit hard after that first turn of the power screw. I remember thinking, "30 extra HP would be just right. " It is never enough. Once you clear one boundary or power level, you'll be searching for a way to get to the next one, then the next one. The only cure is to visit here frequently, and smoke the ricers and V8s on the street.

That said, let me add, Ford doesnt own Cummins, and ATF is NOT a good injector cleaner. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is, except for the posts in which I give a tech report on this or that. :D. Oh, and listen to Pastor Bob, and heed his teachings- his stick packs quite a whallop.

The cord under the hood if its on the passenger side near the air cleaner and inside fender splash guard is the block heater cord. The block heating element is on the RF of the engine block near the oil cooler.
