I have a guy that is wanting me to BOMB his injection pump but I have a few questions.

Is it identical to the one in our trucks?

And where is the governor at? He wants to be able to cruise at 70 or 75. I was thinking it might be on the trans cables or throttle somwhere.

It also is an Allison trans.

Thanks BJ Deal

What!!!

I wouln't. Think about the added stress on the parts and the effect of fuel economy. It's the tax payers $$ not the drivers!

He'll be sendin' his guys to your doorstep if you be messin' up them busses. :-laf

Headlines read...

"Illinois grammer school students treated for cervicle strain injuries... .

Crazy mechanic blamed" :-laf :-laf

Seriously, the only thing I do to the injection pumps on my fleet is to turn the fuel up a bit and mess with the AFC. The engine in these buses is under much more of a load than our trucks, even when the bus is "empty". If you mess with the afc, the engine will never clear up the smoke with a load of students. Trust me ... I know... ...

Besides, the school isn't going to pay for a set of gauges and even IF I did install a couple of gauges, the drivers won't look at then anyhow.

I have found that sliding the fuel plate full forward on a P-Pump bus and turning up the rpm's, the transmission fluid reaches terrible temeratures if you keep the engine loaded for long.

I'm with Scott if the bus is still being used publicly it should not be modified. I'm a school bus driver and buses live hard lives. Most buses have a GVW around 28,000 roughly 3x that of a pickup. The engines work very hard to provide minimal performance. To get on a hiway you just floor it and wait. To expect a bus to be much faster is not realistic without extensive modifications IMHO.

bus

What is the make and model of the bus in question? thx

WOAH, WOAH... Yes, this bus is retired and is now a moving luxury bus. This thing is sweet inside, leather couches, tinted windows, entertainment center, sat. radio, all the bells. Not sure on the make, but she looks like my 92 underneath the hood. He has already bought some gauges, and was going to put them on at the same time. Trans gauge is already on it and it never moves on a 100 mile trip. But he does want to move the governor, so if any one knows where it might be?

Thanks

If it is a 92 or 93, it will have the P7100 pump, I doubt that it is a 160 hp w/VE pump. Non Dodge ratings of that year were 190, 210 and 230 hp. All used the P-pump. Just go to the 12v, 94-98 section and check for mods. Most school buses were Bluebird or Superior models.
