Thanks, TDR Staff

Just letting you guys know.

Water pump rotation direction.

HTML:
that you can't "hop up" the VE pump enough

Ummmm, how much is enough? I have some bent and broken pieces that had "enough".

You kinda gotta sneak up on it and work at it a little but the i think it has been established the VE pump is capable of delivering enough power to be usable. Obviously the later models will make more but the gen 1 engine is far from anemic.

I priced a trans at about $4500 with billet input/hub and a hefty TQ converter. The controller, adapter, plate, and starter can be had for about a grand. If you add a billet output and the rest of the little things it will push you a little over $6k and it all should bolt in with little problem. Me thinks somebody wants to make a bunch on the job cuz I can't see the labor and minor fab work being worth that much. Maybe its just my perspective.

One thing no one has mentioned yet. You talked about regearing the rears. On the 3:07 axles you have. You will not do this. The 3:07 axles are 3:07 only. The cases and carrier assy's are one off. To change gearing you need axles that were made for 3:54's and up. Finding those geared axles isn't to hard. Plus there are 1st gen people here wanting 3:07's. So finding someone to trade you a set of higher 3: series gears shouldn't be a problem.

On your question of the 2nd gen. Your hauling a load that would be a class 5 weight size tractor. Your hauling it with a class 3 truck. I would sell the class 3 and buy the class 5 it will run longer with less drivetrain problems and a bigger enigne to.

Well, after much deliberation and weighing the advice of 30 or so TDR'ers and conversion/hop-up specialists, I decided to try to find a '97 or '98 truck that would suit my needs. I figured that I could even get one and replace the transmission and still be money ahead. That is, until I started looking at what was available. A few fairly good deals in TX and CA, but nothing anywhere near VA that seemed reasonably priced and in reasonably decent shape. So, while I was visiting my local Dodge dealer to ask him to put my name on a list to call me if he ran across one, he talked me into buying a 2005 3500 Quad Cab SRW 6-speed (because Chrysler won't warranty an auto with an exhaust brake on it, and I refuse to be without one). So there will soon be some questions in the 3rd Gen forum from me, and a classified for a '93 Dodge for sale...

Thanks to all for the help - it was very much appreciated. I really wanted to go with repairing the '93, but since it's a work truck and not a play project, the reality of time (or rather downtime), reliability and availability of places to work on it finally overcame what I wanted to do and told me what I had to do. (A dealer invoice price and $3k worth of incentives didn't hurt, either... )

Sounds like fun Mark, You can mount nv5600 to a GV to a 205 t case. GV has all the adaptors. I like the idea of the allson. I am thinking of puting nv5600 in a 93. I hall stuff like this too. A guy how halls some dozers and TLBs for me has a 91 with a 6 speed in it has 250 k on it and the trans has never been work on. And only 2 clutches. All he does is hall with this truck. He said he has had loads of 28k on it. I looked in to a allson and gave up on it, to much $. You have to change those gears, no trans is going to like that much waight with no help from the gears. How you keep u joints in it is a trick. MPH X Gear Ratio, divide by Tire Diameter x 336 = RPM at the given MPH in direct drive (1 to 1). 373 with 33" tires would be = to a stock 93 with 235,75R16 and 354 greas. I would think you would want no less then this. Rember more gear creates leverage meaning your trans works less. Good Luck

Dean stock 93 2wd ex cab 195k a litte bit of timeing

If you're serious about the allison conversion you should check out the post on this site by Gmac, he has done several. I have ridden in three of them and the next transmission that I buy will be the allison for sure!
