Im having problems getting the fan clutch off of my '93. I know the motor turns clockwise, so that means i have to turn the nut clockwise to loosen it right?

Also, what can i use to keep the pulley from turning? I tried the 10mm wrench on the small bolts but that didnt work.

Thanks in advance guys

It is a left hand thread. The tightening motion will loosen it. Whacking the end of the wrench with a hammer might do it. You may not want the work of removing the radiator but an air impact wrench might be necessary. Set it to tighten. I am assuming your Ram is the same as my 98 12v as far as the fan clutch procedure goes. If you could get your hands on a shop manuel you truck will undoubtedly have the left hand threads. I got mine off without removing the radiator and worried that I did not get it tight enough when I put it back on but 80K later no problem. I installed the Horton fan clutch on mine with the electric motor. The override switch comes in handy in a hot climate.

I had to remove my fan clutch to fix a leaky front cover and I bought one of those cheapy strap wrenches from the auto parts store, a rubber one, not a chain. It is infinitely adjustable, and I just put it on the pulley, held it and turned the fan nut clockwise with I think an 1 7/16 wrench. Whatever it was the fan nut came off fairly easily, it went back on with neverseize as almost all the fasteners do on my truck lately. Good luck

best way i've found is an air hammer with a rounded pointed tip on the edge of the nut in the direction you want it to go. couple pulls on the trigger will shock it loose. with the belt still on, the pulley wont move using this procedure

WHy are you wanting to take off the fan and clutch? I have always removed the whole assembly- brakcet and all, to get to the front timing cover. 4 10mm bolts, move the rad hose aside, and you're in the clear.

Ok, so it hasnt always gone that smoothly.

NAPA sells a fan clutch install/removal tool set. Comes with two fan nut wrenches, 32mm, and 36mm- this is the size you'll use. Also included is the tool that holds the pulley from moving. It worked ' ok '.

If you don't need to remove the fan from the clutch, just do as Daniel said, remove the whole fan mount/fan assembly. That's the easiest way. But if you are replacing the fan clutch, then you'll need to remove the fan clutch ON the engine.
