OK I give. . :( . . I just spent an hour trying to adjust the idle on the 93 and have failed, like miserably. Before I juice this pig I wanted to make sure I could adjust the idle. The '89 was nowhere near this difficult and I thought it was gonna be a breeze.

I just can't get a wrench on the 10mm nut without a Ford-Wrench (torch) to bend the wrench and getting at the screw end is right in line of the banjo fitting on the end of the pump. So, no socket and a screwdriver only gets 1/2 way on.

What is "the way" to do this?? I gotta get more than a measly 15# boost outta this thing... Stock sucks...

I had a very difficult time trying to adjust the idle on my truck also, but thanks to the expertise of deezul1, I was able to adjust my idle. I think it's almost impossible to fit any kind of wrench or socket on it. Instead, we used a center punch and just tapped the nut loose. It was amazing how easy it worked after I tried practically everything elsed and failed.

I tried tapping on mine with a punch, but couldn't get it loose. What worked for me was to take a 10mm combination wrench (one end is open, the other end I think they call a "box end"), put the open end on the nut, laying the wrench almost flat in line with the threaded rod. I turned it by putting the blade of a screwdriver in the box end of the wrench and using it like a lever.

I don't know if I'm explaining it worth a darn, but it worked perfectly for me.

I found a cheesy tool in my cheap tool box that worked just fine. It looks like a screwdriver but has a flexible shaft (looks like a spring) and has an end on it to accept 1/4" sockets. I put a socket on it and got it in there on the nut then took some channel locks and turned it and everyhting worked out fine. Sometimes the cheap crap works.

good luck

Don

Thanks a ton..

Don, Mike, Mopower,

Thanks guys for the additional options. You can bet this weekend I will be trying at least 1 if not all of them to get the darn thing loose.

I'll let ya know how it turns out. Thanks again.

This IS the tool for the job. It is made by 'OTC'. An the part no. is #7268. You can get it from any Cornwell tool or snapon tool guy. Or anyone that carries 'otc' tools. It is a timing belt tool for a ford. you can use it from the front of the motor without bending over. And it's cheap!!!!

So what does it look like?? Is it just an offset wrench, like a distributor wrench for the gas pots?? I was thinking of just going and getting a metric set of Crows-Feet. That should do the trick I would think. .

Lil' dog, sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner. been out playing. anyway, the wrench looks like a Z with it's horizontal parts cut short. It has a square hole for a 3/8th drive on one end and a 10mm box on the other. I just slip it over the idle screw and grab the lock nut. then after the nut is loose I adjust the idle with a medium sized screwdriver. and you can leave the tool on while you're doing this. I found out about the tool out of frustration and " I'm NOT going to let this truck beat me". I ruined quite a few misc. tools and many trips to the napa store then there it was, just sitting in my ' special ' tools drawer. you know, hiding in plain sight.

Got it done!!!!

Thanks guys for all the info. . Hdm48, sounds like the right tool for the job, but of course I tried a couple of the other routes first. sorry...

The screw driver through the box end was the trick as this screw is much longer that I realized and a normal socket wouldn't be long enough and a deep was way too long.

Anyhow got the collar off, turned up the pump a little and adjusted the idle in about 20 min. Man I love mechanical fuel pumps!!!!. Now its up to around 20-21#s boost but I have mosquito control issues... LOL... . I guess I have to buy new injectors to control that. ..

Lucas or the ol' Blues seem to be the choice though the BD's were pretty good in the 89. . Of course this is apples and oranges wrt to the higher flow injector pump and intercooler.

Anyway, thanks for the tips and any advice/$ on the injectors would be appreciated.
