93 intercooler into a 89?

I might have a chance at putting a intercooler from a 93 auto into my 89 which has a 5 speed. I am hoping that it will mostly fit as it is. Is this the case? Also, Will I need to swap the radiator? I realize that It is smart to put gages in the truck first, but if this can be done, I dont want to miss the chance. Any advice is welcome.

I'm about to do the same for mine. What you have to have is the core support, crossflow radiator, different water neck, intercooler, intercooler pipes, intake that turns down (instead of the one that goes up across the valve covers), and different turbo because of the different outlet size. These are required (and possibly more than I am mentioning) to do it as a bolt on. Some guys have adapted using what they have, including cutting their current core support and keeping the existing radiator. I haven't done mine yet, so I'm not overwhelmed with knowledge, only enough to be dangerous. Maybe someone with more info will jump in here and help you out.

I am liking what you are telling me, Thanks for the details. I am hoping that I can use my existing radiator as I just put new hoses on it, but if need be, I guess it would be best to use the whole system.

I have an early 90 with an intercooler installed in it. I bought the truck about a year ago with the kit installed. The kit is a aftermarket kit that came with everything needed, including a custom tube grill that is required for the intercooler clearance. The stock grill will not work. Unfortunetely I do not know who supplied the kit, or how long ago it was put in, but I think it was installed somewhere in the early 90's. Hope this helps.

The early intercooler on 91 to 93 wwill not fit the 89 rad if you change the rad from the 91 to 93 it will fit otherwise banks offers a intercooler to fit the 89 rad Hope this helps
