I'm wanting to put a tach in a 93, I understand that there is a plug under the dash that a tach can be hooked to. What does this plug look like, how many wires, what color wires, will any tach work. I don't know anything about this, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

If youre sitting in the drivers seat, its just to the right of the emergency brake release- a flat, blade type connector with four wires going to it. Thats the easy part-now just try to find a factory tach!

I've been looking at rural dodge dealers in the west and midwest, and I think they're all gone.

There are some aftermarket tachs that run off the polarity of the alternator... like my autometer unit. I liked it because it matched my other gauges.

The only problem is the magnetic field from the grid heater can make it funky...

Ok, I found this plug just to the right of the emergency brake cable release, it has four wires going to it, there are two pairs of wires, each pair are the same color going together in the plug that has two small flat prongs. The truck does have some type of sensor mounted near the harmonic balancer, with 3 wires going to it that are all adifferent color than those at the plug, all of this stuff is on a 93 model truck that I want to put a tach on. Now, I also have a 91 that has the same identical plug by the emergency cable but it does not have the sensor on the balancer, this 91 was built in 7/92. To say the least I'm really confused. Have I found the correct plug, does this Isspro tach have this type plug on it?????

Sounds like you found the wrong plug. Lemme go look in Mom's pickup... ... ... . OK, there should be 4 wires going to 4 male pins in the connector. Black, orange, black (some dark color anyway), white (maybe faded lt blue). It is real close to the plug you described. Kind of back from it, halfway between the hood release and p-brake release. Good luck finding it. Seems like Mom's was masking taped up under the dash pretty good before I got to tinkering with it.

DIS tells me ISSPRO makes a kit that hooks their tach up to this plug in. Not sure what the adaptor looks like or anything, though.

Thanks, I appreciate the help, this plug must be buried up there, sometimes I wished I was about 6 inches tall so I could crawl around underneath these dashes.

Here is the isspro adapter the bare ends connect to the tach and the terminals plug into the connector under the dash.
