My brother-in-law's 93 won't go into O. D. again.

The first time he changed out the speed sensor and it fixed it for about 1 month, second time he changed the O. D. solenoid and fixed it for 1 month, and third time changed out the TPS and it fixed it for aobut 1 month. The first time he took it to a transmission shop and they said there was nothing wrong with the transmisson just the sensor. Besides for the O. D. problem it shifts great and seems fine. Any ideas what to do next?

It has about 40,000 on it since rebuild.

There's also a temp sensor on the trans line either coming from or going to the cooler that will limit the OD operation, sone one else might know for shure but i think another temp sensor on or near the intake might also limit operation.

I removed the sensor off my trans line years ago and just connected the lines together, i used the port to install a trans temp gauge ... ... ... ... Rick

Per Bill K this past weekend, try cleaning the plug contacts on the plug that goes into the TPS on top of the injection pump. He said that was an area that is known to cause problems.

Paccool hit the nail right on the head. Those nasty little wires will cause you all kinds of headaches.

Check em. They have a way of getting loose in the connector too.

you can bypass the whole mess very easily. Go to the overdrive solenoid and cut the two wires 8 inchs up from the plug. Run the ground wire to a transmission pan bolt as a ground and run the power wire to the fuse box on a switched hot. Put a toggle switch on the dash inline on this wire and you have a push button overdrive. this is what I did on my conversion when I threw the computer over my sholder. copterdoc

I had the same problem with my dually. I finally traced it to an internal short in the plug that attaches to the TPS. Went to the stealer and got a new "kit" to replace plug. The kit consists of a new plug and 3 pieces of shrink tube. Cost $39. 13. PN 4728883. Satisfaction of finally having OD fixed-priceless.
