Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) 94 12v missing connection wastegate/afc

hi, i have a 94 4x2 with 134000 miles. i've had the truck for the last 12000 miles. everything looks pretty much stock. i noticed this past weekend while changing my fuelfilter that the end of the steel high pressure line that runs to the wastegate actuator on the other side of the motor is open. I'm having a hard time finding anyone at a dealership that can tell me what part i'm missing and where it hooks up to the AFC??? After a lot of headscratching the parts guy at Cummins great plains came to the conclusion that the previous owner had blanked off the other end of where this line should hook up on a line coming off the exhaust manifold. the diesel guy at the dodge dealer came to the same conclusion but neither can come up with a picture or diagram proving this to me. neither one of them sounded real sure... is this a likely conclusion? i've had the truck for 12,000, how long could a turbo hold up with the wastegate inoperational??? can anyone help or point me to a picture of the injector side of a 94 ctd, particularly where the bank of steel high pressure lines heads under the valve covers? if anyone has a stock 94 and a digital camera i can provide an email address...
 
On mine (it has the HX-35 turbo but it's still the same) the hard steel line is connected to the wastegate actuator by a short piece of hose with hose clamps. The steel line runs up the side of the motor and across and connects to the AFC using another piece of hose (alot longer) and a pair of hose clamps.

thanks. this looks like the "blank" is in the line leading into the AFC on my 94, that line is coming from the manifold into the AFC. The cummins guy told me that i need a fitting there with a nipple and hose to connect to the steel line coming under the valve covers. there is one steel line on the backside of the injector pump, the backside closest to the cylinders, not the firewall. on that same line of sight there is a nipple on the AFC which is open and not connected to anything. could this be where the connection is supposed to be?
 
On mine the connection comes out of the back of the AFC housing on an angle (back towards the back passenger side of the motor). There is an L-shaped connector there and the line coming from the WG connects into the top on a barb type fitting. The other line (which is a hard line) screws on the back, bends around, and goes into the intake manifiold underneath the intake horn.

thanks nathan, i'm with you now. mine has been plugged. anyone know what the longterm effects of this setup will be to the turbocharger? fuel system? etc??? will the wastegate function properly if i re-make this connection???
 
On an otherwise stock truck it won't hurt a thing. Before all my mods I had the wastegate blocked, and it's still blocked now (via a boost elbow). And I've had the truck almost 60,000 miles. It could hurt the stock headgasket if your getting upwards of 35 lbs of boost (but on a stock truck thats not going to happen). But with my mods the highest I have seen is 36.

Like Nathan, I have 370s and a blocked WG. You would really have to try to get enough fuel to hurt your turbo, especially if your mostly stock. Get a boost gauge (and an egt gauge while your at it) and you won't have to worry any more. Remember, the boost signal comes from the intake manifold and tees to the WG and the AFC. Make sure your AFC is getting the boost signal and you're not leaking boost out of an open fitting.

i am trying to understand this, what is the point of blocking the wastegate? do you get more power out of this? i don't understand turbos so don't mind my ignorance.
 
I blocked my wastegate when I pulled the plate out. At one point I was getting 45PSI and then after I blew the headgasket and had a cam and fuel lines installed along with the fireringing and studs it hit as high as 52PSI. So to help prolong the life of my current turbo I had to hook the wastegate back up. It now is limited to about 35-37PSI. I am getting a turbo from Scheids installed on JAN 10. Anyways most guys around here the first thing they do is plug the wastegate and I havent heard too many problems. Its just when they start really dumping fuel and they run the turbo too hard.
 
I would drill and tap the compressor housing for a boost fitting(orfice). That way you can adjust it for usable boost pressure.
