94 2wd 1500 360 v8 trans problems.

Hey guys, I wish to be enlightened on these non diesel trucks. I picked up this truck for a pretty good deal but the trans is acting up. It has a tough time shifting from 2nd to third, when you are on the throttle it will just stay in 2nd, of you lift off, some times 3rd will catch or the engine will just rev freely. Reverse also has a tough time engaging and when it does you can throttle it a little and it will bang into gear. I already did a trans filter change and adjusted the bands according to the fsm for a 46rh. Nothing weird in the fluid, i also used atf +4 instead of dextron 3 mercon. There is also a code for the torque converter clutch solenoid (code 37), but i dont think this would affect the 2-3 shift or reverse. Anyone have any ideas? I'm hoping that its something simple because its not a fancy electronic trans.

Oh also when it does shift into 3rd it does not slip or anything, so i dont think its a smoked band.

I had a 99 1500 with 5. 2 and it did the same thing. Dave Goerend told me it was probably a solenoid in the torque convertor acting up. Maybe email him thru his website and he can give ya some insight to yours. His specialty is heavy duty but he does fix them all.

well, imma gonna be replacing the solenoid pack soon. let you know if it works.
