Hey guys. I rarely visit you over here on the 12v page, but I am looking for info on a friend's problem. She has a '94 with a 5 speed and thinks the trans is shot. Her mom was pulling a trailer from Limon, CO up here to Green River to help her move and about 20 mi. from the house it quite working. I have NO idea if it even is the transmission as I haven't even talked to her mom, but she was asking me how much she could expect for a rebuilt one. I have no experience with the NV 4500 - if it even is the 4500. Were there other 5 speeds used in the '94s? Any help here is much appreciated. I guesstimated about 2k for her and suggested she try salvage yards and such as the 4500 is much more common then the 5600, right?

- thanks guys

Depending on symptoms, it is not uncommon to have problems with the hub in the clutch disk. I've seen them tear out completely and I've seen them explode and bind up so the clutch wouldn't disengage.

Turns out it was the input shaft. Lots of problems with that, I know. She is paying 1. 2k for a rebuild. I tried to get her to buy the core and let me rebuild it and then split the proceeds, but no go :(

be carfull of the nv 4500 rebuilds now the parts are all junk and not up to new ventura standards. i have had three from midwest with no luck and only 5k on them total. i am going to upgrade to a six speed just can't figure out which one. my stocker lasted to 102,000 and the rebuilds just don't hold up now with the junk parts.
