Just a quick dumb question here

If I were to be buying a truck with the intent of getting a built auto and swapping to 215 pump regardless of what pump the truck had stock would there be any reason for me not to get a 94 or 95 auto, instead of spending more money on the newer ones say 96-98?

just looking for any reasons, its so much cheaper to find a 94-95 in like a $5-$7K range, and the moment it goes to 96-98 the prices are almost in the 10K range for the minimal

basically just looking to find out if the 94 engine with a 215 pump has the same potential or if there are more weaklinks elsewhere in the truck then a newer one would have

thanks alot guys

Injectors are different, smaller. 94 would have the WH1C turbo, not as good as the HX35. 94's also only come in regular cab in case you were looking for a club cab. Personally I really didn't care about getting a newer one since I was getting a manual transmission, so I'm not all read up on auto's I don't know what years came with what transmission and all that. Just do a little research, and make sure the truck was well maintenanced and you'll be fine.

The 94 auto is 160 hp , the manual is 175hp , and I haven't change them yet but, I found during the paln of future upgrades that the 1st gen injectors are smaller and the 94 is the begining of the 2nd , then the trans has some extra electric control starting in 95 , but now I'm starting think about the stuff I've heard , so you might want to go to the home page and look for the buyers guide and that will give the yr-yr changes ,
then we will not have to worry about oldfarters memory.

IMHO, no theres nothing wrong with buying a 94-95 when your swapping a 215 pump, just figure on swapping a set of injectors to reach the full potential for the stock 215 rating. Now if further performance is in the future, you wont be hindered at all in potential.

As for the autos 94-95s come with the 47rh vs. 96-98 have the 47re. Same general transmission just RE is has more electronicly controled pieces vs. the hydraulic controled pieces of the 47rh. When built both are equally capable in the HP deptarment. Some claim the RH is preferred but I'm not really privy to what the big HP w/ autos are running.

I have a 95 automatic and love It

It In a one ton class C motor home. I did have the trans beef up with a 3 stage torque converter and upgrade the trans. My friend has a 93 diesel automatic with 125,000 miles and automatic trans. He likes It and no trouble with It so far. You just got to use common sense and drive like a normal person I would say.
