Just read in a different post that the 94 had a problem with the dipstick what was the problem is it reading wrong was there a service bulletin released for it? Any help appreciated thanks

I've heard of that problem. I've always wondered if the way they fixed it on my '95s was to staple a extra page in the owners manual that says mine takes 12 qts to fill, not 11. Both of my trucks take 12qts to the full line.

Turbo, I dug up issue 6 of the TDR and got this:

"The new maximum oil fill quantity for 1995 trucks is 11 quarts including filter. This 1 quart increase in oil quantity will improve the dipstick resolution and bring it in line with previous models. The new oil quantity can also be applied to 1994 models. No change in oil pan is required. A new oil level dipstick is required to go to the 11 quart total fill quantity.

Cummins p/n 3928740 or Dodge p/n 4796874 dipsticks raise the oil level in the pan to 10 quarts (11 quarts total capacity). The increase in quantity results in a 2 quart 'safe' zone on the dipstick, as was used on the 1989 to 1993 trucks. This will reduce the chance of overfilling the oil system immediately after engine shutdown"

Oil level readings are most accurate when oil check is performed when engine is cold and before it is started. Slow drain back into the engine pan from the inline fuel pump
used in 1994 & 1995 trucks is the culprit in many an erroneous reading. Add oil only when the level is at or below the "add" mark. If the oil is in the "safe" zone, no additional oil is required.

Editors note: Make your own + 1 quart for your 1994 truck. Next oil change add the additional quart and scribe a new high mark on your dipstick. You now match the 1995 trucks with the 2 quart safe zone. Out of pocket expense, 0. 00. The dimensions for the scribe mark should be 1 3/16" above the existing add line.
