Replaced my slave and master to a 94-97 design from SBC.

What keeps the master cylinder in place? I see that you insert it into the bracket on the firewall, but it doesn't click into it, and looks like it could pretty easy rotate and pop out of the bracket.

Does it help the pedal feel? I have the 3600# street DD and my pedal is hard. I've gotten used to it but my wife can't puush the pedal down all the way. If it doesn't help the pedal i'm going to wait till I have trouble with the slave before upgrading.

It's a little easier to push "I think". I only say I think because my slave went out on my 05 about 2 days after installing the same DD you have. So I didn't really have much time to use it. Also don't forget if you buy the slave from a dealer instead of South Bend you will have to swap the rod that connects to the pedal out of your factory one. South Bend made it easy and already did it for you.

Tim,

Mine has never fell out.

Where did you stick the reservoir?

Yeah, I have mine at the left end of the firewall, and had to make a bracket to make sure it was level (if you bolt it directly to the firewall, it is leaning to the front)

I tried using the stock washer to firm it up a tad, but it squeezed out a bit.

It just seems odd how loose it is. I guess the preload from the reseveroir tube is all that cocks it tight?

Yes, the 3600 lbs pressure plate is killing my knee, even with the 97 servo. Maybe I should have gotten the 3200 plate?

I've drove one with a EEP 6500# plate, makes my 3600# seem stock.

So that's why your left leg is so much bigger than your right leg. And all along I thought it was something wrong at birth... :D

Not trying to hi-jack this thread but I have been contemplating installing one of sbc slave cylinders. My truck is slow to shift into some gears and I have trouble getting it into gear alot of times. I understand this is because for some reason or another the clutch disks arent disengaging completely. I had a guy that has setup these clutches up before do the shims so i presume they are right. It just acts like i can't push the clutch pedal in enough to make everything disengage. Is this slave cylinder what I need or would I but spending money on a product that wont help my problem?

I doubt it.

What shims are you referring to? Stock nor the SBC have any shims that I am aware of.

I have the same problem with my FE, Its hard to get it into gear most of the time and sometimes it wont go into gear. It sometimes also feels like it doesnt want to come out of gear. I called Peter about it mainly inquiring about the 12v slave thinking it may help the problem, and he said it sounded like the pilot bushing may have some wear on it but the slaves in from the 12v trucks have better lines and better Hydr. to help keep the lines from blowing out with the increaced pedal effort on the DD clutches.

My slave cylinder started to bleed off pressure with the con fe clutch. Replaced it with the sbc unit, much better. Plus I needed it anyway for the DD. Lee.

Usually just before they go out the pedal gets spongy and won't completely disengage the clutch. Real fun at a traffic light I love shuting off the truck to get it in gear. :D

The shims that I was refering to are on my haisley DD drag clutch to set the tolerances between the disks and the floater. Its essentially a McCleod setup that haisley modifys to their specs.

Exactly why I decided to upgrade the stock slave. I had to shut the truck off with the stock clutch to get in gear sometimes...
