Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Oh Wow

Just installed a different trans into my 94. At this point, it has some DTT parts, and some other parts. Not 100% sure what all it has in it. I just know that it is able to hold all the power I can toss at it right now! And for the $$$ is MUCH better than what I had! Should get me by for a little bit! Already dropped 1/2 a second off my 1/4 mile times!

I have a few questions at this point...

#1, The truck that this was in, had a 4k kit. So it wanted to shift way later than my truck would spin. At WOT it would stick in 2nd. To fix this, I loosened the TV cable. Now, it fixed the issue, but did that also lower the line pressure? I have heard that if you do that on the newer transmissions it will. . Is the 47RH the same? Should I put it back, and just install the 4k kit? Also, what is the correct way to setup the TV cable?

#2, My lockup takes 5 seconds to kick in after I hit the switch. With my other trans it was almost instant. I can force unlock and then flip back to lockup really fast, and it still stays unlocked for 5 seconds. What do I need to change to fix this?

#3, My 1-2 shift is kinda slopy. All the others are nice and crisp. I am going to check band adjustement, and change the fluid... What else?

Thanks for the help folks!

Byron what do you have that was purchased from DTT, I don't show that we sold you anything.

Nope. This is all just old stuff that I picked up.

I hope to be able to buy a full meal deal soon. Just dont have the $$$$ yet.

Got to get by with what I can dig up at this point if I want to keep racing!

To tell you the truth, I have no idea what is DTT in this one anymore. But I know it works a heck of a lot better than what I had!

I did not think it was a DTT unit as we track our components pretty carefully. I got your message and trust me , it is not a DTT unit at all.

I can pretend can't I? :-laf

Whatever it is... It's still kickin. Way mo gooder than my last one. Just gotta work out the bugs! Oo.

When you switch the TC to lockup, try lifting the accelerator pedal momentarily. That should force the lockup. Anyway that is how my DTT works.

You can also turn on the lock up switch just BEFORE it shifts to the gear you want to have it lock up. If you do it that way you won't have to lift. It will lock up shortly after the shift to that gear. Very similar to the way stock lock up works. If you forget, then you will probably have to lift to cause lock up.

That is why I sold my A/T truck and bought a 5 speed now Peter locks up my clutch whenever I want it to ;)

The '94-95's defuel WAY early. With a stick I'd opt for the 4k GSK but a 3K would make a HUGE difference and you can upgrade later if you ever need to.

To answer your question about the TV cable. As I recall, Bill at DTT recommended that there be about 1/16" to 1/8" travel left in the valve lever when the throttle was fully depressed.

On the delayed shift into lockup, I believe that can happen when the TPS voltage is high. One thing you could try is to remove the TPS from it's mounting, leave it connected and take a run to see how the shift behaves.
