My '95 got totalled out back in February and I am almost done putting the '95 12V engine in a '98 24V Auto truck and I have a few issues.

We are using the 47RE transmission, all wiring harnesses, PCM, and ECM from the 24V. I have put 24V sensors, Oil Pressure, Intake Air Temp, and Coolant Temp, in the 12V engine. Oil pressure gauge doesn't work. I think it is a bad sensor or a wiring issure. Coolant temp gauge and intake heater grids work great.

We have mounted a 24V crank sensor and the properly toothed tone ring, tach is working great. I was told I would not need a MAP sensor or a Cam Sensor so we don't have one.

I had the transmission rebuilt and installed a Goerend's VB and TC, billet input shaft, and billet band strut. The diode has been installed in the PCM wiring for the constant pressure valve body.

My problems are these:

  • transmission starts in high gear when shifter is put in drive. If you put the shifter in 1 and shift it manually it shifts fine.
  • TC lockup is only happening when under moderate to full throttle. Steady cruise or no throttle, lockup will not work.
  • Alternator is not charging. If "hot wired" it will charge.

We have wired in the 12V TPS to 3 of the six wires for the APPS from the 24V. This was done using a recommendation from a man who has done this conversion with a 6-speed. He used the TPS so his cruise would work. He didn't need the TPS otherwise.

My thoughts are these:

  • My TPS is bad.
  • Is there a difference between a '95 12V alternator and on for a '98 24V?
  • Could the alternator be causing the transmission problems?
  • Why is the transmission starting off in high gear?

I hope I have answered any questions. Any and all help would be appreciated.

Why not use the whole wiring harness and ECM from the matching truck as the engine ?
Is the transmission a reptuble shop ? maybe your linkage isnt adjusted correctly ?

I've been through some of the same stuff with my transformations. Maybe I can help.

Since you're using the PCM/ECM and engine/transmission wiring harnesses, not only should your tachometer work, the charging system should work too. As you know, the crank sensor does everything on that year range 24v engine as the cam sensor was only there for diagnostic purposes. So, the truck not charging would lead me to believe that you have a wiring issue or the PCM isn't regulating properly. It's just as easy to externally regulate the truck.

As for your transmission issues:

This kit should solve the shifting issues.

I don't think your alternator has anything to do with the non lock up.... YET. Fix the APPS first, then go from there.
