I need some expert advice for a fellow RVer. He is looking at a 95 2500 2x4 with 280K miles. It had a new trany 30k ago and recent brakes and ball joints.

It has an exhaust brake and all gauges and a recent compression test seemed ok.

The seller is asking $5k but he thinks he can get it for $4k. He's not sure if it is too many miles. We all know 280k on a Cummins is just breaking in, but lets hear your input.

Thanks

I aint no authority, but if the body and paint is good I think it's worth it, assuming the drivetrain is OK, which it sounds as if it is.

Eric

PS Welcome aboard. :D

Sounds like the 160 hp (automatic). That, or the 175 hp stick engine, if not bombed, can't hardly hurt istelf, crack the head, etc. The most it should need would be a valve job. Just be sure to check out the exhaust manifold for shrinkage (I bet it has shrunk enough to bend the bolts), and fix the killer dowel pin. Turbo won't last forever, but that is easily replaced and not too expensive using contacts on this forum.

Assuming the truck itself is nice, and the engine runs well, it should be a good deal.
