Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) 95 auto trans. what to do?

I have a 95 2500 with auto trans. I am wanting to replace the trans. I have 159000 and travel. I don't think I can afford an ats. Should I just go with what the local trans. shop will provide or I have looked into a Jasper rebuild. The Jasper trans. is $2550 with converter plus install. I have had trouble with the cooler lines since 472 miles. I have had leaks that I have fixed 8 times. I think I will go with hyd. hoses this time. I can not justify putting a $3700 trans and converter in a $7500 truck. Just wanting some advice. I pull a 10,00lb horse trailer maybe 10 times a year and travel out of state maybe 5 times a year.

The trans. hasn't failed yet but each time that the lines have failed I have had to put atleast 5qts in it to get going. My milage has dropped of too. I have to run up over 40mph to shift into 3rd sometimes.

I faced the same decision about 2 yrs ago. I went with DTT master upgrade kit, new tc, new vb. The upgrade kit uses a lot of your original parts, like the housing, gears, etc. The frictions (clutches) and some other things in there that wear out are replaced with "more & better". This saved a lot of $$$ over a completely new/rebuilt DTT transmission. Also saved a lot on shipping since not as much weight is sent.



How you go will also depend on where you live. I drove about 500 miles to Chip's Trans. in Sevierville, TN. They did a great job, and the trans has been everything (and more) that DTT and Chip's said it would be.

I can't say anything about a Jasper trans. But I have had experience with a few Jasper engines. All I can say about them is not even on a bet would I install one.

Westerfields Countryside Transmission is also a good shop to deal with. . They will get the job done in 1. 5-2 days and charge $600-$650 for total labor. . They are located about 30 minutes from Owensboro, KY in Cromwell, KY. . They have done me right in the past. .

I only have 39,000 on my trans. and I am having the oil and filter change but no one does a complete trans flushing around here. I try to take care of my dodge my other Dodge has a manuel 6 speed trans. I have not pulled a trailer yet and wonder how much I can pull with the motor home. What a fellow to do.

Faced the same decision in Feb. Trans had bit the dust for the second time. Last time was at 70,000 under extented plan and was covered by DC. Looked at new trucks but my friend at the Dodge dealer said that the 12V was probably the best made. So I went for it. Got a completely rebuilt trans from Goerend Brothers for 2850 with a triple loc converter and beveled gears instead of straight gears. Freight to the EAst coast was $400. and the install was $ 450. Could not be happier. Can believe that a waited 10 years to finally drive a truck with a real trans. Talked to Dave many times and I'm pleased with his service. Didn"t even charge a core charge. I second Dave at Goerend Bros. He helped me rebuild my own last year with his parts, talked to me for a few hours on the phone for a few Saturdays, and now I can drop the Hammer without worry. I'm pretty sure he's got better warranties than any others, if that concerns you.

Single or Triple disc clutch

Oo. I basically have a stock truck. I am going with Goerends. I called him today and will call back to get one shipped to me. I plan on putting 370's in and a 3k gsk. I have no fuel plate currently and am having a plate fabbed to a #0 at work. Do I need a triple disc tc or can I stay with a single disc from Dave? I will call him back on Wens. to make a decision.

I have his single disk, 370s, 191 DVs, and 0 plate. I'm still nowhere near the hp rating of his single. PM me if you have more specific questions.

Will depend on what you use the truck for, and how you drive it.



I went with the triple, because of the low speed (under 30mph) towing that I do.
