Where's Dodge Ram Cummins Air Time?

New owner of an older GM (steal of a deal) wants to know what is the best fuel economy that can be expected for a 2500series 4WD automatic with no load?

Are there any tuning tricks or aftermarket accessories that can improve upon 14. 8 MPG?

I am averaging around 12 MPG so far this winter with my 95 6. 5. That is all in town driving and snow plowing. The truck had a leaking headgasket when I bought it, so I havent taken it on any long trips. Mods so far are gauges, straightpipe, and a homemade air intake using some pvc pipe and a big K&N filter.

There are aftermarket chips, but you are limited to low boost numbers because of the lack of intercooler. I have seen spikes up to 16 psi, but have the wastegate controll set at about 12 psi.

There is a little timing advance that can be done, but I have yet to do this, so I am not sure on the beniefits.

Short of puttin' in a 12v Cummins I don't know. I have a 95 Yukon with the 6. 5 td, 3. 73 gears 4x4 auto and think that 14. 8 mpg mixed city country would be an improvement.

I don't know how much you know about the 6. 5's... I would highly recommend investing in a heat sync for the PMD/FSD. The PMD/FSD is subject to an early death and lots of headaches due to its location on the IP. :--)

Have fun with the new toy. ;)

The best mod for the PMD I have seen is to mount it between the air holes in the front bumper. Keeping it under the hood is still subjecting it to a lot of heat, but still less then if it is still on the side of the pump.
