is there alot of people that have done this? i am looking into it. i am scared of electronics. i like ignition points as long as you aren't revving over 5 thousand rpm's. and i like the mechanical cummins. but i love my truck. if anyone out there has done this or has some links to quality work, that would be great, my interior could use a redo anyhow. i am looking for pricing, and the quality of different shops, etc. i am either gonna buy a jetta tdi, to keep miles off my truck, which brings up the point that them things haves tons of potential problems with computer controlling, or maybe not. so i buy one a tdi , or else stretch my dually, and buy a well used beater cummins. it seems like the money saved in fuel with a tdi vw, might very well go to maintenance anyhow, and since i know there is none of that preposterous nonsense when it comes to the mighty cummins it makes me kind of undecided. thanks in advance for any info.

Try www.bayerautoinc.com My buddy is considering a crew cab conversion on his '97. Supposedly they are pretty good. I saw them featured on the history channel. You've got to call and be put on their waiting list. I'm sure most people have told you that you are crazy, but I like the way you think. It's cheaper than a new truck payment. They quoted my buddy like 18-20k dollars to crew cab it, repaint, and add leather interior. Plus, you get to keep your 12 valve! It's a no brainer if you ask me.

what about buyin a front end damaged 98 or 99 extended cab four door cheap v8 model, and using the cab. anyone done this. with proper procedure, the frame should be able to be extended easily. the interior work seems endless though. i came up with this idea today at work. i don't even have a wife yet, and might not want kids at all. but sometimes it would be nice to haul all my buds to the track to help out. they can suffer no leg room anyhow. i am gonna call them and see what they say about it. there is the issue of the vin #'s though. i need to call them up anyhow. i can do the paint. or i should say a buddy has a paint booth, and i can do the grunt work that would reduce costs quite a bit i think. new leather sounds real nice though.

You can look at my pictures in my gallery at my 97 crew cab. It was done by bayer auto back when it was new. Seems to have held up so far. (170000+ miles) The only thing I am seeing is some rust bubbles on the two rear doors up by the bottom of the window. I don't know if the metal is thinner or if they didn't use as good of paint as the factory. I am not sure. Another thing I wish they would do is make it so you could control the rear windows from the drivers seat. Not a big deal but it would be nice.

That's funny! I read this thread the other day, and was wondering about just that. I wonder if they've figured it out over the last eight years.

We recently got a dog, and have quickly discovered there is no way we can use this truck once we have kids. We've even gone and looked at a King Ranch Ford crewcab, just don't like the 54k sticker price. I'm leaning towards just stretching our 02 out in a couple of years. That's if it can stay reliable (we don't have the best track record so far).
