i have a 95 dodge with 340k. lately its been acting up, it runs good until it warms up then it surges, dies when you let off the pedal. if it dies it will start back up and run like crap or it might run fine. i did change one fuel line that was worn and i had a hole in the screen and suction line in the tank, both replace. took it to the local shop for a diagnostic they figured the fuel pump was bad, bought a fuel pump and replaced it. that wasnt it still have the same problem, im just 300 dollars poorer, any ideas

I had a 6. 2 chev that did the same thing. Found that the fuel fill cap was not venting it would pull enough vacuum that it would starve the engine for fuel. Try running with the fuel cap loose or off and see if it helps.

On my 95, I had similar issues, the shop I took it too since I could not figure it out used a rag and a compressor in the fuel tank filler to clean out the tank vent.

did that take care of the problem when they cleaened the tank vent? i thought mine was good running with the cap off, its not, today it ran fine for about fifty miles then it started acting up again. Im thinking my next step is to run hoses to a fuel can and test that. Unless somebody has a better course of action.

The injector pumps from that vintage have a delivery valve problem. The next time it acts up try pouring cold water over the injection pump. If the problem goes away it is time for a rebuild.

still tracking down the problem. work out of town during the week so im on limited time to look at it. It dosent blow any smoke when it happens. It runs fine for an undertermined amount of time then you can feel it in the pedal, iy dosent react like it should, like its not getting enough fuel. I drove it the other day it didthe same thing and when you let off the pedal it stalls. I started it back up right away and drove it home about a mile with no problem and it didnt die coming into the driveway. If its the delivery valve does the injector pump need a total rebuild?

Hmm, my next suggestion would be to check the rubber fuel line between where it comes off the frame to the lift pump... if it's cracked, it will suck air, which can cause the symptoms you describe.....

the tank is three quarters right now, it has been at various levels when its happened. i had the local shop check fuel pressure, they said it was the fuel pump. i changed the pump, that wasnt it. i have changed the rubber fuel lines. had the sending unit cartridge out sceen had a small hole in it from rubbing on the tank bottom and the suction line was wore thru in a spot, not sure how that happens, ive changed the sending unit in this truck before and it had the same line rubbed thru ? i did change the screen.

I suggest if you replace any fuel lines that you use with hose made by Shields. This type> "fire-acol USCG Type A1 SAE J1527/ISO 7840" which comes in varies sizes. The hose wall thickness is about 1/4".

Purchase the above type hose and replace all the rubber fuel lines. If it corrects your problem all the better, if it doesn't, you will have eliminated the fuel lines as the source of the problem. And as bonus the fuel line hoses that you replaced will last for years and years.

Have you tried what Surfbeetle suggested?

Good luck & keep us posted.
