I would suspect that a bad connection in the wiring harness may have caused it. Changing the fuel filter may have moved some wires and fixed it. Who knows? The CEL is lit by the PCM so the PCM has to have some sort of input from the affected device to cause it to light the CEL. The WIF sensor is the only fuel system connection to the PCM at or near the fuel filter. I've got mine wet. Had a broken wire. Forgot to hook it up once. Replaced one that leaked. No CEL. The AIT is pretty close to the fuel filter. Might have been your problem, but I have never heard of the AIT causeing a CEL on a '95. I may do some experimenting to see if I can cause one.

My 95 did the same thing with the wife after she drove it about 20 miles on a cold morning with the lights on. She failed to check the voltmeter. I said a few "magic" words and tapped on the alternator and the old baby started charging again!. It has 221K on it and this is the first time I have had to make an alternator attitude adjustment! Now if I could just find out where to hit the 47re in my 98 I could have a Merry Christmas.

I had low alternator output turn the light on in my truck. It's the only time I've ever seen it. The alternator shop replaced the brushes and it's been good since (70,000 miles), I guess I really didn't need that $180 armature the shop told me I needed.

Bad fuel solenoid - no light.

Broken water in fuel sensor wire - no light.

bad alt

my alt was at 12. 1v it would stay at 12. 1v even if i turned on the lights fans radio and it still stayed at 12. 1v. Had a 41 CEL code. I pot on a reman alt (external reg) and up to 14. 6v. Sometimes the alt want kick up tell 10 sec after starting but the heater isn't on anymore. I thank its my dash on that one. but thanks for the help everyone.

The dash component is just an indicator light. It's working. The PCM is what turns on the light. There is 12 volts on pin 7 of the dash connector C215 for the dash indicator lights. The PCM puts a ground on pin 9 to turn on the CEL. No other dash envolvement.

If the alternator is not the correct one for the truck it could very well be the problem. If you don't have the Dodge service manual you need one.
