Picked up a '95 2wd 12 valve, and went by the dealer to have the VIN checked and get a factory options list. The service guy said there is two recalls that haven't been done yet... the first is the ignition switch recall, and the other is the steering shaft recall. I know what the ignition recall is,but what is the steering shaft recall?

Mike: It's a plastic sleeve that's put over the steering shaft (near the fuel filter) and held on with a few plastic tie wraps. Takes about 5 minutes for a 5 star mechanic to install. It keeps the steering shaft from falling apart.

108,000 miles and counting.

I personally felt the steering shaft recall was a BS band-aid waste of time. The igg switch recall was sent out on all '95s,but only applies to certain vin numbers.

Mike,

I had the steering shaft thing done to mine. I asked about it since it doesn't look like it does a whole lot. The explanation I got was that in extreme off road driving it's possible for the steering shaft to separate. The plastic thingy is supposed to keep it in alignment if that happens so it will slip back together. I kinda wonder about that one.

Mike here's a list of recalls on a '95,courtesy of Alldata. With Alldata,if you pay,you can read the entire recall, remedy, how to do it etc. I was looking though some of these and they certainly apply to my '95 trucks, but I never received notice on some of them, worst was the air bag one. What's up???Have any other '95 owners recieved all these? If anyone wants more info on one of these ask and I'll post, still have a couple months left on my subscription with Alldata.

Thanks illflem,
I totally forgot about it,but we do have an Alldata subscription at work. It is a real handy reference to have around, although not much was in there for my '00 Ram. I'll have to look through the '95 stuff tomorrow.

-Mike

On the steering shaft recall, does that include 4 & 2wd? Also would the "Borgson" shaft take care of it? Mom says the truck wanders... or I drive lousy. #ad
