I bought a transmission that came out of a 95 CTD that I was planning on replacing my A727 3 Speed after I rebuild it. The transmission I bought is the 47RH with what I am pretty sure has the locking TC and overdrive.

I have read that I might have to redrill the crossmember, and I purchased the engine adapter with the transmission. I am hearing that it wont bolt up or I cant us a lock up TC. I am sort of confused. Will this transmission work with my first gen and still get the lock up and overdrive?

doable - a lot of work, but worth it

Hi Alex -

Your questions are well founded, and answerable... but there is a lot to this swap. It isn't necessarily difficult, but it is involved in order to make it all line up and be just right.

First off, it can be done - I'm doing this very swap in my rig as well, and I've done a ton of research on this. Yes it will all work, but you'll need some stuff to do it right, particularly the electronic controls that tell the overdrive and converter what to do with themselves.

Below are three threads I've been involved with that will probably shed enough light on your question to at least let you know what it will require. Have a gander at 'em and then post pack with more questions. It's really late and I'm barely able to keep my eyes open so I'm off to sleep, but I'll have a look at this again tomorrow.

See what you think, or maybe search the 1st gen threads for '47rh' and 47're' - I bet there's a bunch more out there, and probably a lot that I've missed, but your answers are in here somewhere.

'Suerte amigo,
