When I tried to eject a CD from the factory radio tonight it made some noise like it was trying to cycle but failed to eject. Since it wouldn't eject I tried to play it and that failed as well. I tried various combinations of powering the radio on and off and ejecting the CD but nothing seems to work. The cycling noise will last for a few seconds each time the eject button is pushed. Has anyone had this problem and found a solution?

Possibly try pulling the wire harness out of the unit for a few seconds and then rehooking it. If that don't work maybe tip the unit upside down and then back right side up.

If that fails, time for dissection.

A switch has probably gone bad inside your cd player. I would send it to the repair shop, they will return your radio and CD.

Here is a good repair shop I send my radio to when the CD player malfunctioned.

Downtown Radio Service

2908 Stewart Creek, Charlotte, NC 28216

I shipped mine to them with a note saying call when it is fixed with a total, when they called I put the bill on a credit card.

It cost about $100. 00 but that will vary depend on what is wrong.

Repairs took about a week.

Interesting that I just saw this thread...

My factory CD player did this last night on the way home from work for the first time. I turned the radio on/off/on/off/on/off/... many times, didn't work. It didn't even recognize there was a CD in it, as mine says "paused" on the display when there is a CD loaded but not currently playing.

When I got home, I tried to partially load a new CD, but didn't let it take the new CD all the way in. As soon as the display indicated it thought there was a [new] CD loaded, I removed the new one, and that did the trick. I was then able to eject the previous one.

... ???... who knows...

Thanks

Thanks for the feedback and help. I tried the various suggestions but the CD was determined to stay stuck so I bit the bullet and tore into it.

I removed the radio/cd player. This is easy to do, about a ten minute job. (Note that the Service Manual say to remove the ground wire from the battery. I didn't do that. ) Remove the cup holder (two screws) and the ash tray (two more screws) and then carefully un-clip the bezel that surrounds the dash. Easiest to do this if you put the shift lever in low (automatic) and tilt the steering wheel down.

Once the bezel is out the radio can be removed by taking out the two mounting screws, disconnecting the ground screw and removing the two cables and antenna wire. With the radio on the bench remove the four small screws that hold the face plate on. Pull off the volume control knob. Gently pry the face plate off the two clips (center top and bottom) and pull it forward, it unplugs. Once the face plate was off I used tweezers to pull the CD out. I reversed the process to put everything back together. Luckily everything works fine again.
