Well coming home today with 74,356 miles on my 96 Dodge 3500 Dually that has never been off the payment let me down today. It is a 2 wheel drive and the front left wheel bearing went out. Now I cant get the hub off because it is stuck on the spindle. I have only had 1 set of pads, I was going to repack them on the secound set... did not wait on me before she took a dump.

Please check these trucks very well, and repack them every 50,000 at least. We have a ford Dually with 170,000 and never had a wheel bearing problem... wonder why?

Any good tricks to get the bearing off? I cant get the hub to move at all and only 1 roller is missing in the bearing.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I think that rather than the mileage, it was the age of the original packing. Eight years isn't all that bad. ;) Also, what part of the county do you live in. Moisture takes its toll as well. Thanks for reminding me to check mine.

I would check them, I have never been off road and I have never worn out a set of brake pads... . so I didn't get a chance to check them. I could not believe the amount of grease in there. Looks like they forgot to grease them. The outer bearing where shot but the inner wasn't as bad. 20. 00 a side from napa for bearing races and seals isnt to bad. I will check them again in about 50,000 just to make sure as I want to see if the weight of the engine is loading those little bearings more than a normal truck.

check them out folks ... just for a pease of mind. If you find them dry post here so we can see if this was a common problem.

WOW, i just had to replace my passenger side ones too... they were dry, i didnt have a "breakdown persay" but there was pretty severe play in the bearings so i decided to replace them... better safe than sorry. . i just have to wonder if dodge knows how to pack bearings?
