TUNDRA

COME ON GUYS, YOU ARE COMPAIRNG A 1/2 TON TUNDRA TO A 3/4-1 TON CHASE. THAT IS INSANE. THE COMERICIAL WAS COMPARING BASE 1/2 TON MODELS.

I DO HAPPEN TO LOVE TOYOTA PRODUCTS, HOW MANY RECALLS DO YOU HAVE ON YOUR DODGE,FORD,CHEV,ECT. :(

I DO BELIEVE THAT THE TUNDRA DOES ALL OF WHAT IT CLAMES TO DO, YES THE CTD DOES MORE ,BUT IT WAS DESIGNED TO. IF I DIDNT TOW ANYTHING OF OVER-1/2 TON WEIGHT I WOULD BE DRIVING ONE. ( I WOULD FEEL SAFER. )

DONT KNOCK TOYOTA BECAUSE THE BIG THREE WONT ALLOW THEM TO SELL "BIG TRUCKS" HERE IN THE STATES, CAUSE YOU KNOW THEY MAKE HEAVY EQUIPTMENT (EXAMPLE THEIR FORKLIFTS) LOOK HOW LONG IT TOOK TO FINALY GET A V8. AND I THINT IT IS A WORTHY ONE.

BY THE WAY MY LEXUS V8 IS SMOOTHER,QUIETER,AND MORE POWERFULL THAN A MERCEDES. :p

I don't know why you can't get to the web site, I just clicked on the link and it worked, try this.

www.rvamerica.com

open the box on left " rv america community"

click on Owners Reviews

Tow Vehicles on left column

go to bottom of page and click on next until you get to the third page, will say records 11 thru 15, then find the guy with

Reviewing: Toyota Tacoma 2WD 4cyl

JRG:

I not here knocking the Toyota down. They make VERY good cars and trucks, they are very dependable and I"ve always recommended them to any one that wants a car/truck in that class. I don't recall the commercial so I cant speak for it. You're right when comparing anything it should always be apples to apples. The guy reviewing the Toyota on the link I posted above is a little overboard pulling 2000lbs over 15% grades with out loosing any power? And that's with a Tacoma 4 cyl.

Thanks buddy! I finally got to that article on the

Toyota!

My comments... ... ..... well,... ... ..... that guy is full of

s*** if you know what I mean. I basically had that

same engine in my 86' and traded that one in for

the 89' I described above, the main reason; no

towing power!

-------------

JRG:

I am not "knocking" the Tundra only trying to point

out that they don't have the "heavy" torque I need

for towing as you already pointed out. I am sure the

newer ones are better than the older ones I drove.

(Quality control wise)

As far as recalls and vehicle problems, I have been

pretty lucky with my 96'. I had one for an ignition

switch and for a "checkvalve in the A. C. system. "

Both pretty minor. As I stated above, my 89' Toyota

P/U AND my wife's 90' 4-Runner BOTH had the leaking

exhaust manifolds which were warped and had to be

replaced by Toyota. My problem with that was that

the dealership would NOT admit it was a factory

defect (which in my opinion it was). I knew of AT

LEAST a dozen other people who had the SAME

problem with those manifolds.

FYI, my wife has a 97 Lexus ES300, which, so far, has

been a good vehicle. However, even with that car

we went "round and round" with Lexus over a smell

in the A. C. system which was present when you turn

the A. C. on in real hot weather. (They never did fix

it as we still have the "smell" occassionally. )

So much for the "Relentless Pursuit for Perfection. "

All cars and truck have problems at times. My goal

has been to find a truck which runs and pulls my

trailers good, gets reasonably good mileage, isn't

going to leave me stranded out in the middle of

nowhere and is capable of good performance.

I have found that in the Dodge CTD's I have owned

and personally,... ... . I won't go back to Toyota

trucks.

Sorry if my "entry" offended you in anyway.

1) I saw the Tacoma off road race truck at Crandon in the CORR series. CORR is the truck version of supercross, very exciting to watch. They hit jumps at upwards of 70 mph and fly over 150 feet off the ground. Needless to say, these aren't anywhere near stock.

But, the Tacoma sounded just like the 500 ci V-8s that were making 600+ hp (I told you it's fun to watch!). Ran with and beat most of them too.

2) Stopped at a dealer a couple years ago in the wifes Ranger. Salesman starts telling me how a Tacoma (I was looking at the new Stupor Doodly they had) would be all the truck I needed to pull my snowmobile trailer. I told him "Well, it's an enclosed race trailer and I pull it with my 1 ton 4x4 dually Dodge with the Cummins turbo diesel in it. " His response was something like "Oh, well, what do you think of the Ford?" Told him I wasn't going to buy anything, just looking. He excused himself.

NO OFFENCE TAKEN. JUST THOUGHT THAT IT WAS UNFAIR TO COMPAIR THE TWO TRUCKS. ;)

WITH THE 90 TRUCK, THEY HAD 3. 0 MOTORS AND ARE WAY DIFFERENT THAN THE NEWER 3. 4. IN THE EARLY YEAR 3. 0 MOTORS, THE COMPANY THAT TOYOTA HAD MAKE THEIR HEAD GASKETS STAMPED OUT A NUMBER OF GASKETS THAT WERE MIS-STAMPED. TOYOTA DID CATCH THIS AND DID PREFORM A VOLUNTARY RECALL. IF A DEALER REPLACED THIS W/O RESURFACEING THE MANAFOLD THAT POSSIBLY COULD HAVE CAUSED YOUR PROBLEM.

THE 86 WAS A 4-BANGER 2. 4, A FREIND OF MINE HAS ONE AND I AGREE THERE IS NOT MUCH TOWING POWER, BETTER SUITED FOR 4-WHEELING.

REFERING TO THE REVIEW:

I OWNED A 95 4-RUNNER 3. 0,PRODUCED AFTER TOYOTA RESOLVED THE HEAD GASKET PROBLEM, RAN IT NEAR REDLINE UP TO NACHIES WA. W/ MY 4300# LC BEHIND IT 50-55 MPH AND NO PROBLEMS, HEAT GAUGE NEVER MOVED. COMMING DOWN WAS MORE TRICKY, AFTERALL I WAS 800# OVER WEIGHT.

MY FREIND HAS A 99 TACOMA TRD, WE JUST GOT BACK FROM RUNNING THE DUNES AT COOS BAY. HE WAS TOWING A 2000# CAR TRAILER WITH 3 QUADS ON IT AND A BED FULL OF WOOD. 5050# FOR THE TRUCK(50# OVER) AND APPROX 3700# FOR THE TRAILER. NO PROBLEM FOR HIM, JUST CAN'T HAUL ANY MUCH MORE THAN THAT. I GUESS THATS WHERE THE TDC COMES INTO PLAY. :D

SO I DON'T SEE WHERE THE REVIEWER IS FULL OF ANY THING,HE ONLY CLAIMED A 2000# LOAD(15% GRADE I THINK IS A STREEEECH). I THINK THAT IF YOU ARE HAPPY WITH A PRODUCT, NO MATTER WHAT IT IS, YOU VERY MUCH COULD BE A SALES MAN FOR IT, JUST LISTEN TO 99% OF THE MEMBERS HERE.

PS

TOYOTA MUST BE DOING SOMETHING RIGHT IF WE'RE TALKING ABOUT THEIR 1/2 TON IN A 3/4-1 TON FOURM.
