It's been discussed before about the wimpy stock horns on our Rams but most of you have gone to air horns but have any of you just replaced or added to the stock horn and if so with what. I do not really want to go to the air horn because of not wanting to use it all of the time but when I do honk the horn I would like people to hear it and for me not to feel silly by it's sound.

Thanks,
Paul

I just bought & installed some plastic air horns from Kragens, as I too didn't want big air horns, hi/lo trumpet sound. I mounted them behind the bumper on the driver side as the wire loom that houses the wires for the stock horns is right there. anyway they work for me as I tapped into the horn wire to power the little compressor and ran a ground wire and they come on with the stock horns. I may have gone the JC Whitney route had I had a catalog to look thru as this would be an easier install-eventhough this wasn't too bad>>>>>>chris(It's a sad day that I'm not as HORNY as all you other guys-I might have to go with the Hadleys just to keep up my self esteem)

JC Whitney sells extra loud electric horns that will just replace the horns on your truck. Real simple install. To do your truck real justice, real air horns are the only way to go. I run both systems in my truck. I use the stock horns to wake up people sleeping at the lights, or as a gentle warning or hello toot. I use the air horns on nincompoops, idiots, a-holes, and other hazardous life-threatening drivers on the road.

I did try those extra loud elec. horns on another vehicle I had. They are louder, but no where near my 26 inch Hadley with 125 psi coming out of the air tank.

koa man, what are you using for an air compressor to fill your air tanks? Does anyone know of an engine or p. t. o. mounted compressor for our trucks. got the air horns, got the tank, tired of having to fill the tank with the home compressor after a few blasts of the ol horn

rubberneck -- Just go down to K Mart and pick up a TruckAir (brand) 12 volt compressor ($42. and change), good for continious running and hook it to your system. Pressure is higher than you want to use, so I went to W. W. Grainger and bought a pressure cut off switch for $16. you can set switch for 125 lbs. , to make it work. Bettern' sliced bread! Haven't got the air horns yet, but gettin' ready.

I am using my home air compressor to fill an 8 gal. portable air tank. At 125 psi, you can blast the horn at least a dozen times and the pressure will still be around 100. 20 or so good blasts won't bring you below 85 and it is still plenty loud. Don't know about you, but for me, a dozen blasts on the horn is about 6 months worth. Tank does not leak, but good idea to replace them every 5 years as the portables do not have a drain valve like the regular compressors and you won't be draining them to begin with. I just bought me a new one. They are only $30 at Walmart or Big K.
