Friend was driving to work in his '96 turbo diesel when the oil light and oil guage lost all pressure, he immediately pulled over (everything happened so fast, he is not sure but he thinks the power steering got stiff and the power brakes didn't act quite right) and shut off the engine. strange noise coming from what appears to be under the front cover. is this where the oil pump is located? Any and all information will be greatly appreciated

Welcome to the TDR!

Sorry to hear about your friends truck. Is it leaking oil anywhere?

Maybe the sender just took a dump. He could try replacement, I don't think it is too expensive, and see if it does solves the problem.

Just a thought?

The oil pump isn't under the front cover but that's where the Killer Dowel Pin resides. I hope that's not the problem. Check for major oil leaks. Check oil level with the dipstick. I don't think there is any connection between the power steering pump/vacuum pump and oil pressure except, perhaps, the KDP.
