I have a 97 12 valve 2 wheel drive and I had my overdrive go out. After getting the unit back from the shop my truck now does not shift correctly. I have to let off on the accelerator pedal to get it to shift and my mileage went from 17 to 10 mpg. Has anyone had any similar experience and what would you recommend.

Take it back to where you had it worked on. It just needs to be adjusted. Had a gasser that did the same thing after being rebuilt.

Shift points

The transmission uses a cable or lever operated linkage to provide throttle position input to achieve the 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd shifts combined with pressures sensed inside the transmission. First ensure that the transmission has the correct fluid level. Then with the truck off climb under the truck and on the drivers side of the transmission there should be a cable attached to a lever that has linkage that runs up the the side to the fuel pump. This linkage should move the lever on the transmission when the throttle is depressed. Note that the shift lever is right near this point and will only move when you move the gear selector. The procedure to adjust the transmission linkage is in the FSM. Hope this helps. Ken Irwin
