The cam gears are different for sure, maybe not in size, tooth pitch etc, but the VE rotory pump trucks had stampings on the cam and fuel pump for timing, then a small amount of adjustment was left by rotating the injection pump on the studs vs the taper shaft and lack of the "half moon" key on the 2nd gen. 12v trucks.
I bet a resourceful individual could overcome this by careful calculation!
You might get the engine serial no for each and call Cummins to see if the numbers have superceeded to the same place.
I am supplying a CPL and engine serial no for a 92 then a late production 97. Didn't have one for the 89 handy sorry...
