We, too, tow horses with our '95. The following aren't power mods (and thus aren't a lot of fun), but are still critically important:

1. How are your shocks? I swear by Bilsteins, but some others around here really like them adjustable whatchamacallems...

2. Be sure to give your hitch a thorough inspection. It would be a shame to leave your horses back in Calif. without even knowing it...

3. Do you have the old-style 'quick disconnect' fittings on your transmission cooler lines (plastic, with a little wire bail holding the two halves together)? If so, replace the lines with the newer version. This is right up there with fixing the KDP in terms of avoiding disaster... those quick-disconnects can self-destruct with no prior notice. I never could find anybody who could explain to me why anyone would ever need to quickly disconnect their transmission cooling... .

4. Optima batteries: they don't leak. I think Sears still carries them, but so do many others. Pricey but well worth it. Battery acid from conventional 'sealed' batteries will gnaw on the vitals beneath the driver side battery. Big mess.
