The above engine is running normally then looses all power, billows white smoke then picks up power and operates normally for a few minutes and then looses power w/tons of white smoke again. Over and over at all loads/throttle positions and engine temps.

I was told to advance the timing 4° :( I just tabbed the KDP this summer and would have to pull all that back apart, again. :{

That sound about right?

Doesnt sound like timing to me scott. Maybe air in the system? you don't have to pull the front cover to do the timing. The pump gear is behind the oil fill duhikky. Hopefully someone can give more help than this :confused:

I thought it was "doohickey" CSchafer :-laf :-laf

Greenleaf when it loses power is the engine shaking and missing, or is it smooth & seriously gutless? I would start with the easy stuff, drain your canister and check your fuel filter.

It shakes and misses. All it can do to run at this point. It's intermittent. Comes and goes w/out warning.

I was thinking that I'd have to pull the timing gear cover to clean the pump shaft and gear prior to the reinstall :confused:

I guess I'll just blow a bunch of starting fluid/electrical contact cleaner inthe the hole and hope that cleans most of the oil off the pump shft/gear I. D. :(

That pump timing pin is a real bear to reach on a transit school bus. Took three cups of coffee and had to wrestle with a bear claw. Someone thought it good to mount the "Tu-Flow" air compressor right up next to the injection pump #@$%!

It's done

I advanced the timing a "bit" and it woke the engine up. Still lacks a lot of power but it runs well, has great throttle response and no white smoke.

I'd still like to replace the injectors and may do that sometime in the future. Kinda wonder how much I can turn the fuel up with out requiring higher performance injectors. All I have done in the past to the P-Pump buses is slide the fuel plate full forward. They are almost ALL the way back at OEM settings.

The last bus I modified (1989 unit) with VE pump tweaks /injectors/cylinder head etc. destroyed the Allison Auto :-laf Boy, that thing ran :eek:

I sent the bus out w/a load of students and the driver reported back that the bus acts like a new one :-laf Loads of power. . LOADS :-laf

Maybe you guys just need to advance the pump up a tad and not have to worry about bigger injectors/turbos etc. etc. :eek: :-laf

ROF-LOL

I guess we all learned a little something from this.
