Looking for suggestions on what to look for on a '97 2500 that has just recently had a big drop in mpg and perfromance. The truck has about 85k miles on it. Thanks in advance.

Look for loose turbo hoses, maybe a plugged fuel filter and or air filter, timing may have even slipped... .

C'mon, give us some clues to work with :(

With the loss of performance, do you now get a lot of black or white smoke? Different engine sound? Fuel leaks? I'm thinking of bad injector(s), slipped pump timing, bad injection pump, etc.

Does it idle rougher? If so, cracking loose one injection line at a time may isolate a bad injector or pump barrel. Be careful because the high pressure fuel can penetrate the skin.

Truck is located in palmdale calif. no prob with winter fuel or extended idle times. The truck is completely stock, very little smoke. Can't find any obvious fuel leaks, and the engine sounds as it always has. However, in about four months time this truck as gone from getting a consistant 16-17mpg to a lousy 11-12 driving the exact sme route and fueling at the same station. (Round trip to work). There has been a couple times with hard starting but thats all.

If it is California emission truck, maybe the egr valve has finally clogged your heater grid, giving you the hard starts and clogging your intake.
