Guys,
Big Don here. I have a few questions for you. I am looking at a 1997 2500 long bed club cab 4x4 SLT. The truck has 3. 54 gears, 5 speed, sliding rear window, cloth, carpet, tilt, cruise, cassete player and maybe some other things on it, can't remeber right now. They are asking just under $22,000. 00 for the truck. It has 70,000 miles on it and no gooseneck hitch, just a receiver hitch. It also has the skid plates and tow group.

can you advise me on the worth of this truck?? I'd really rather have a shortbed, but it is a pretty truck. I know some nv4500's had trouble and I will check that out. What do you think guys??

thanks
Don

Sounds just about like what my truck is worth and I have the same exact options.

Big Don--

I have a 97 SLT Reg cab, 2500, 5spd as you see by my signiture. My truck has a rubber floor and cloth seats, sliding rear window, gooseneck hitch and it had four bald tires on it, when I bought it over a year ago. It had 69,000 miles, a small dent on the bed rail, a small dent from someone leaving the diesel nozzle in at the pumps and a slightly kinked bumper. It sounds like a lot, but I'm really picky and see every flaw. Overall it was a very clean, strong truck.

I paid 19,500. 00 at a hometown Dodge dealer. ( They had been watching for a truck for me for about a year, with no luck) You should be able to get the price down a little, but don't let this one by. In my part of the country its hard to find a good used 2500 4X4 5spd, 12 valve that hasn't been ran to death, or that doesn't have 300,000 plus miles on it.

Sounds like you found a good one. ( 12V that is) Just my opinion.

Kurt

Hi Don, I bought a 1996 with 78,000 miles on
it 3 weeks ago with all the options you listed except mine has a CD Player. I paid $17,800 it was a local trade and the wholesale dealer was on the way to pick it up. They were asking $19,995 I told him I would give them $17,000 for it and they said $17,800 was the least they were going to take. It's a great truck and I've been a GM guy all my life but I but the truck because its a Cummins. I'm averaging between 18 and 20 MPG back and forth to work. Can't wait to take a trip. I would say $20,000 would sound more in line. I try to split the difference between Trade in Price and Retail on Kelley Blue Book. Good Luck!

Hey Don, I just bought mine at Thanksgiving with about 80k on it... I looked for several months to find what you have found with very few to choose from. I bought the truck from TomC here on the TDR for $20k and traveled nearly 1000miles to drive it home. Based on what I have found, $20,000 for a 97 in nice condition is the right number.

I bought mine in October. It did have 120000 on the ticker so $17,000 didn't seem like too bad of a price. It's only a 2WD though. It's been a great ride. Sounds like your in the right price range.

Guys,

I called today to arrange looking at the truck but this was after I called the original owner. It was a one owner guy was about 50 and it had always been serviced by the dealer, non smoker. After all that I decided to buy it so I called the dealer, but they sold it just before I called. Bummer, yall keep me in mind if you ever see a good one, I would prefer a shortbed, but aside from that this truck fit the bill pretty good. Don't get me wrong, I still love 'Ol Blue (my 89). The 99 is so so, I think I'll keep it but would not buy another 24 valve truck. I want an inline pump truck preferrably 97-98.

thanks
Don

Did Dodge even offer a short wheel base diesel powered truck in '97 or 98? Let alone a 4X4? I think you're looking for something that wasn't available.
I'm sure that if this is not correct, someone will chime in.
