like everyone has said 53 12v motors are not herd of cracking. ive herd of 2 . 24v another story ive even parted a 98 12v truck that had 660k on the clock no crack and dowl pin had never moved. but anything can happen. seen several 600hp pullers that had 53 block and ran for several seasons no problems you just always hear about the bad ones not the good ones.

'98 53 block here. Knock on wood, has been great. Had a 99 that cracked at 12k miles. I was second owner and the engine had already been dealer changed when I bought it with 33k miles on it. I will never own another 44 engine myself. It left me stranded 2 times and the weather was not good in either situation. Lift pump and then crank sensor. Just left a bad taste in my mouth. I then went to an 05 only to find that it was not worth the difference in money at the time to justify owning it over a second gen. Going on 5 years on my current 53 block 98.
