I am currently looking at a 98 12 valve 3500 4x4 quad cab SLT Laramie. It has a manual transmission and 96000 miles. The dealer (Ford) is asking $20,000. Does this sound right. I was thinking that it was a high. Also could someone tell me what they are getting mpg wise with this setup. I don't know what rearend gear is in it so both types would be great. Also are there any problems or concerns with this setup that anybody has had.

Thanks in advance,

Doug

yeah, you can do better. i got mine for $21,172 when it had only 36k on it, but i could have done better. it was the only good truck in the area that i had found in many months and almost what i wanted at the time (excpet the 3500 and quad cab, but i'll live). $18,500 i'd say would be a fair/good price. good luck!

I was also wondering if there has been problems with the transfer case leaking on these trucks. Because there is crud all over the back of the t-case but i guess it could be grease from the driveshaft.

You would want to have the killer dowel pin fixed, the seal in the transfer case can leak, make that repair part of the deal if it is leaking. Not an expense fix. Mine see sig. gets 15 -16 around town and 18 - 20 highway. Your 12 valve would do much better than that, I would guess 17 - 18 town and 21 highway. I have no idea on price. I paid $25K for mine when it was 18 months old and had around 34K miles on it. Mine listed new for around $40K it has everything but cow hide seats . :D I think I got a good deal?

mileage...

i get 14-15mpg around town floored off just about every stoplight. i can get 22-23mpg on the highway at 70, but then it goes down real fast after that speed. i have 3. 54s with 285/75 tires.

I have a 1995 3500 dually with a 5 speed transmission 4. 10 gears

4x4, I commute to work which is 10 miles each way my mileage is just slightly over 16 mpg, their is almost 59000 miles on the odometer. i hope this helps.
