I'm very much in the process of trying to get more responsiveness out of my 180HP- 98 dually, and I need some input from you guys in the know.

I did a previous thread related to my new gauges, and looking for more performance, but I still have more questions that didn't get addressed.

After installing #8 fuel plate kit, I'm still only getting 19 lbs boost. (Same as when stock. )

From what I've read,I was looking for somewhere in the high 20s.

After installing the kit, and adjusting the AFC star wheel, I'm getting more smoke (For about 20' from stopped, to WOT), and a little better performance.

My problem is, my boost has not changed from when stock. At WOT, it climbs right up to 20 lbs, then instantly drops back to 18-19 lbs, with just a puff of black smoke.

Should I temporarily plug the small hole in the new boost elbow, to see what happens? Add more fuel with the star wheel?

My EGTs max at around 11-1200*, and I think more boost would help a lot.

I will be inst. a 3K-GSK soon, will that help? I'm trying to do this, one step at a time.

I would appreciate any advice you guys might have.

TIA, Ray

Sorry, long thread.

First, make sure you installed the plate correctly.

2nd, there's a threaded rod on your wastegate. I forget if you lenghten it, or shorten it, but it's adjustable.

IIRC anything over 29-30 PSI boost is counter productive.

Eric,

Thanks for the advice.

Re: Inst. plate correctly. I followed the TST directions step by step, as accurately as I could. Do you have any suggestions as to what I might have done wrong?

Wastegate rod. I'll try adj. it in both directions, and see what happens.

29-30 PSI boost. I would be more than happy with that kind boost for the

performance level I'm seeking at this time.

I'm not familiar with the abbreviations IIRC and HTH?

TIA, Ray

I havent even done a plate in my truck yet. :-laf

Clutch first. :rolleyes:

HTH = hope this helps.

IIRC= if I remember correctly.

If you lengthened/shortened the rod at the wastegate, I'd be looking for a leak in the line, or somewhere it's not connected. I dont think the wastegate actuators are prone to go.
