My cousin has a 98 12v that the previous owner put a 6 spd out of an 02 into. He only has a few mods done to it, 100HP injectors, 4k spring kit, 60lb valve springs, I think thats it. His clutch is going out and he wants to get a better clutch than he has now(not sure what that is). He was looking at the South Bends and Mitchells, but said his pockets arent that deep. I mentioned the Valairs mentioned on here might be a good option. I looked on there website and they are definitely cheaper, but are they any good? I have a Mitchell myself, so I have never used the Valair's. Anyone that has one or has had one, Are they a quality clutch? He did say he has the 5 spd flywheel and 12. 25" clutch, so would their 5 speed 13" clutch conversion kit be what he would want? Sorry about the vague, long windedness of this question, just trying to help a brother out. Thanks

i know you said he didnt want to pay that much for a clutch, but i think a south bend is still what he should think about. You get what you pay for. just break down and get a south bend and be done with it. of course i have never been around any of the others you mentioned, so maybe someone else with experience with those can help.

if your cousin has an '02 6sp, he either has a 6sp flywheel and clutch or someone swapped in a smaller input shaft.

I've got a south bend in my 98 12v w/ an '02 6sp in it :)

Personaly, I'm like you guys, you get what you pay for. I just heard a few guys on here mention some other brands besides South Bend, so I thought I would check them out for my cousin. Not sure if he has a computer, but I think I'll try to get him to become a member, would teach him alot, I know I have learned tons.

As far as that Forrest, I'm just going by what he told me, I don't know squat about transmission internals and what will fit in what. He might be wrong, just passing on what he told me. Thanks for the posts though, they do help.

no sweat, initially the 99 5600's use the same input shaft spline and therefore clutch as the 5sp, but 00 and up 5600's have the bigger input spline and would require the 6sp style clutch

I'll let him know that, maybe its a 99 transmission? Maybe I just misunderstood him too. We'll figure it out and get him hooked back up, figuratively and literally.
