'98 2500 learns new trick!

Truck started a new trick the other day. Just by gently pushing the shift knob forward, I could turn O/D on and off. The button still worked, too.



Turns out the knob was sliding off the shift lever. I pushed it back on and the truck stopped performing that trick.



Anyone else ever see this? Should I take the knob off completely and check the wiring inside for possible frayed insulation or loose connections?

I would if it was possible with out removing half of the steering column.
