Was driving home thru Wyoming yesterday and stopped at the Flying J in Evanston. Met a man with a 98. 5 24V who hauls fifth wheel trailers all across the country for a living. His rig had 621K on it, without a rebuild (of the engine anyway). He said he loses a 5 speed transmission about every 100K or so. Plans on converting to a six speed when the next one goes Tango-Uniform.

Miles

That's excellent. I've read somewhere that there is a 95 with one million miles on it with no tear downs other than the normal stuff.

That is very good to hear. Was he completely stock or did he have any mods? What were the mods?:D

He said that he had had a box on it previously, but wasn't running one now. I didn't ask the brand or why he took it off. He was running stock when I talked to him. I did mention that a set of 275 injectors was less than $300 bucks if he was any sort of do-it-yourselfer. He was surprised to hear that.

I didn't get to ask him anything further as we we chatting while we both fueled up.

I have a customer with 500K + he also delivers Fifth wheel from the factory to the dealers. At 450 he came in because of oil leak. Bad headgasket. We found the head was cracked. It probably would of been fine but He said replace it. He had had two radiators fail and had ran it with no water several time when he had to 'Get The Job Done".

At 480,000 we Replaced the ORIGINAL Auto Trans mission because the Shifting Paul ? was so shot it was Very hard to shift. We installed a DTT with all the trimmings, A FMS 63 and RV 275. He loves the power when towing. I don't know how long it will last. He runs it hard but does stay on top of maintainence.

Jlcc, I know a guy that Towed heavy all the time and burned out 5Speeds and 6 Speeds every year. He added the FastCoolers and has not replaced another since.

I should have thought to tell him. I did give him the website address for TDR. Hopefully he will come across fast coolers in the next few weeks.
