Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) 98.5 fuel problems, no start, no wait to start light

Hello TDR team, I've been lurking for a week or so trying to get some info to get my diesel back on the road. Here's my situation as I havent been able to find any one post or combination to help me.



98. 5 / 2500 12V Cummins Ram 4x4



1- removed fuel heater

2- replaced mechanical lift pump (purchased 1st one online via EBAY and it leaked out the WEEP hole upon installation, bought 2nd at Napa)

3- visually inspected fuel lines, but needing to pressurize lines from my readings tonight

4- I can pump the lift mechanizm and get fuel thru the filter and to the INLET of the Injection Pump but after that I'm not seeing any fuel making it to the injectors or the OUTPUT injector pump lines feeding the injectors.

5- I have NO wait to start light

6- I will be running new marine hydraulic rubber hoses from the tank to the lift pump this morning



Any advice is greatly welcome and thanks in advance for your assistance

First off, the 98. 5s are 24 valve. If you have a 12 valve it is a plain '98

The wait to start light is hooked to the intake temp sensor/pcm and will not prevent the engine from starting. In theory, it is to let you know when the grid heaters have completed their cycle.

By priming the lift pump you are only priming the system between the lift pump and injection pump. After that you will have to crack an injector line or 2 and crank the engine that is the only way you will see any fuel past the injection pump. I dont know what kind of temps your seeing in CA right now but if its warm enough the waight to start light may only stay on for a brief second before going out. Either way unless its down near zero you should still be able to crank the engine over and get it to fire. Im sure you know this but will say it anyway, do not use starting fluid to try to get the truck to start! It may take off in a way you wont like!

Another thing that is a possibility, since you have R & Rd the pump twice. It might help to read the whole thing, but post#19 should be of interest to you.
