I've got a 98. 5 model year Cummins which, after maintaining a speed of 30-50 mph for a couple of minutes is quite likely to simply remain at that speed regardless of throttle position, either in 3rd gear or in OD. Pounding on the throttle or changing gears will generally correct the condition (after awhile).

So far the dealer has installed a new lift pump, then a new transmission output sensor, both to no avail. Any ideas out there? I'm afraid this thing could get me in real trouble if not corrected.

Many thanks in advance for your assistance.

This is called dead pedal. your VP-44 injection pump is going out.

Ask them to retreive codes. I bet you find 0216.

Buy from the aftermarket not Dodge.

Industrial injection, Blue Chip, Piers, all sell a good pump. And there is a difference.

Good golly, sure hope it isn't the injection pump! If it is, the new one will be the third in less than 125k! I've been thinking (hoping) it was the TPS, but I'll sure have the dealer look for that code.

Many thanks for your help folks. Really appreciate it.
