OK fellas, What gives with the 98. 5 & 99 model years I'm constantly seeing in peoples signatures? I believe the build date on my truck is 09\98..... Do I have a 98. 5 or a 99? (24 valve of course)

Thanks,

Clay

They made some changes midway through the '98 model year production. Guys put 98. 5 to indicate their trucks have these modifications. If your truck says '99 then it's a '99. Mine was also manufactured in 09/98 and it's a '99.

Mid 98 was the change over from a 12 valve to 24 valve so the first 24's got sold as 98. 5. My 99 was ordered, built and delivered in 98.

As others have said, 1998 model year trucks with 12V engines are generally referred to on the forum as 98 trucks. 1998 model year trucks with 24V engines are usually termed 98. 5 trucks.

I always thought of mine as a 99 (as title indicates) but had a build date of 09\98 so I thought I would check.

Clay :)

Also, the 2001 and 2001. 5. Mid ways thru 2001 they switched the brakes and some other things. Easy way to tell if you have a 2001. 5 is if you have rear disc brakes ;)
