I'm in need of some ideas...
When running in either 3rd or 4th/OD, my torque converter is being locked/unlocked several times. It's been getting progressively worse the past 10 days. The TPS on the 12 valves has been a common fix for this as I have fixed a friend of mines this way. I don't see much info on the 24V APPS being a high fail item for this though.
I know it is an issue with the ground coming from the PCM since I have the T. C. lockup switch. With my switch on, and providing the ground to the valve body, all is well.
Anyone have this issue and have the 18-02-99 TSB fix this? I see that a noisy alternator can be a culprit as well. I have also driven with my foot lifting up on the brake pedal to be sure that it is not the brake switch. I'll check the signal at the transmission for the T. C. lockup Sunday. Otherwise, I may have to try the TSB program change.

I had this same problem with my 99 and the TSB fixed the problem. No problems since.

hi guys, just read your BD brake problem,i'm having the same problem have talked with bd people they say to take it to installer, unfortunetly they have a mechanic with a severe people problem,i really don't want to go back,so i'm trying to track down problem myself, what is tsp? i have tried all connections and cleaned vacume controls,bd said to jump out 2 wires at transmission to isolate clutch or control problem?I have not tried pulling up on brake peddle however,i have adjusted thottle switch, still no help,it is kinda funny works ok till everything warms up,do you guys have any other ideas ?????

hey guys joe again, sorry i meant to say what is the TSB test? is this something my transmission guy could do?I am thinking of having him do upgrades on V-B he said he does not need to replace just tweek is this true?? i have 98 1/2, 24 valve, auto, 1 ton dually, with bd brake and auto lock,I have a custom box on rear with all kinds of goodies and on my way to engine & transmission mods,I just got my pschotty housing and can't wait to install,by the way this TDR and so far all you guys out there are really great. best regards--- jdm joe

Just a thought but awhile ago I was having the same problem with my T/C w/BD autoloc and I fixed mine by going to all connections and re-crimping electrical connections and bringing fluid level up to max. I don't know if all, one or none of these did the trick but it's worth a try. Good luck.

Update on signal readings:

With a DVM on the Torque converter clutch solenoid control wire, orange w/black tracer, at pin7 of the transmission it read 13. 8 vdc with the torque converter unlocked. Locked, the PCM supplies a ground and the reading was 300 milliVolts. Meter would jump up towards 13vdc again as I could feel the torque converter unlock.

CASE CLOSED

Had the 18-02-99 TSB update done and problem solved. I had been hooking up my laptop with OBD-II software to the truck this last week and getting the DTC codes.

A P1765-Trans 12 volt supply relay control circuit was being set with this problem. I'd reset it, run the truck and code would set again. Guy at the dealer pitched me some flack that it was the TC switch and relay removal that was causing the problem and the code, but have scanned this truck months ago and never saw the P1765 and the TC was not having issue then.

Finally told the guy to only update with the 18-02-99 and send me on my way. I figured I would shotgun an APPS if I had to since he didn't want to get into T'shooting with this "MOD" I had.
