I have read in some posts that people with the 98. 5 VP44 have had problems. Have there been any recalls or TSB's issued for this pump. What did you guys have to have done?

i have one, and have had no problems with it in 85K miles. The dealer said "It will let you know when its going bad" Still have not figured out what he was talking about.

The only thing I have heard was to stay away from boxes that splice into the pump wires. VA and EZ's have not given any body problems with the 98. 5

Problems...

The only problems I have seen with the VP44 are caused by lack of fuel. Lack of fuel causes the VP44 to overheat. This is usually caused by a bad lift pump, which are notorious for going bad.

Towpro and others... yes, the vp44 has had some failures. Some of those failures have been with boxes that pinch the injection pump wires. However, the number of failures does not go up with the use of the boxes.

Some people warn you off of the wire pinching boxes. If you play the game, you take your chances...

There has been much documentation that shows the failure rate of pumps with these "nicked wires" is less than that of the failure rate of a stock, normal pump.

I really don't want to bring names into this, but I can if it needs to be done. A local man tracked these failures, and even wrote an article for trailer life magazine on it.

Even... nice post. If I ever get the search to work for me...

That article disspells a lot of rumor. The idea of bigger injectors being easier on the pump is just one. Also that the "wire nicking boxes" are more of a cause of pump failure.

Thanks again to Steve St. Laurent for posting Chip's research the first time, and to Chip for allowing us to benefit from his research!

Thanks Evan, I read Steve's post a while back. Great thread. So are you guys saying that just nicking the wires with the scotch locks is the problem, or is it still the box? I really would like to get a PM3. That would be all the power I need..... :D Until next month...
